Pierre Gramegna is someone with strong credentials. Following his law and economics studies at the Université Paris II, he joined the Chamber of Commerce as Director General on 1 September 2003, with firm diplomatic experience behind him with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, in Paris, San Francisco, Tokyo and Luxembourg.
During the years when Pierre Gramegna headed the Chamber of Commerce, the body underwent a remarkable evolution, also reflecting the structural changes infiltrating the Luxembourg economy. The various initiatives undertaken that strengthened the Chamber’s image internationally as well as within the country, greatly improving the quality of service offered to member enterprises, include: the creation of the enterprise space and initiatives in favour of innovation and the enterprising spirit; considerable development of the Luxembourg School for Commerce and collaboration with Luxembourg University; contribution to the country’s promotion via the Luxembourg for Business and the Luxembourg for Finance agencies; export development; the development of a capacity to analyse and make proposals in economic and social domains, through opinions, publications and the organisation of high-level conferences; the defence of the interests of enterprises and continual pleading in favour of a strong Luxembourg economy and
healthy public finances, and finally the new October 2010 law on the modernisation of the Chamber of Commerce.
New Manager Carlo Thelen to take up his new functions today
Beyond these initiatives that have fundamentally transformed the Chamber of Commerce, Pierre Gramegna has managed to instil team spirit and dialogue with collaborators as well as with citizens and public and private partners, thus contributing to reinforcing the Chamber’s image as a choice partner within the Luxembourg economy.
“I will be leaving the Chamber of Commerce with a certain sadness because I loved heading and updating it. There is still much to do, but I am confident as I know that it is in the capable hands of the team with whom I have worked over all these years, who will enable it to evolve in the right direction. It is with immense pleasure that, over these ten years at the head of the Chamber of Commerce, I served the
Luxembourg economy that is a bringer of wealth and therefore social wellbeing. I will be doing the same in government, with the same ardour and the same conviction.”
On behalf of the Bureau, representative members, the Management Committee and the Chamber’s collaborators, its President Michel Wurth warmly thanked Pierre Gramegna for “his wonderful work over 10 years, and for the excellent team spirit and collegiality that prevailed throughout this period” and wished him well “in the exercise of his new high-responsibility role for which he was well prepared by his experience acquired at the Chamber of Commerce”.
In conformity to the plenary assembly’s decisions on the Chamber’s internal organisation, Carlo Thelen is taking up, from 4 December 2013 onwards, the role of Director General at the Chamber of Commerce. He will be attached to the Chamber’s Bureau and will be submitting, before the plenary assembly, a nomination proposal for the new Director General, that will then need to be approved by the government.
