Alexandre T. Analis
Formerly working for Unilever and Côte d’Or, Guy Desseaux, 63 years old, is the Founder and current Managing Director of the company Belgosweet.
Commerce International: In what circumstances was the company Belgosweet founded?
Guy Desseaux: "I founded the company Belgosweet in 1988 after working for over twenty years in the food-processing sector because I've always been passionate about chocolate, confectionary, biscuits and other sweets. Today, Belgosweet is a flourishing SME employing five persons, which produced a total turnover of 1.5 million euros last year. We are based in Belgium but we carry out sales in over twenty countries in Europe."
What are your main activities?
G.D.: "For close to twenty-five years, Belgosweet has become a major player in personalised chocolates, biscuits and confectionary of all types for businesses. We work daily towards bringing customised responses to a clientele whose needs range from small boxes of chocolates to orders for several cartons. In each case, we commit to making an offer to the client within twenty-four hours."
Who are your clients?
G.D.: "We don't target individuals. Our clientele is solely made up of professionals and businesses belonging to all economic sectors imaginable. Belgosweet delivers to over 1,000 businesses every year, from VSEs and SMEs-SMIs to large groups and institutions. Among the latter, we can cite Alcatel, Audi, Belgacom, BNP Paribas Fortis, Carrefour, Compaq, Crédit Agricole, Crédit Mutuel, Doha Bank, Epson, Exki, the European Commission, Fedex, Goodyear, Groupe Tranchant, H&M, Hertz, IBM, ING, Inter Spar, Lotto, Microsoft, Orange, Pfizer, Renault, RTL, Sony, Telenet, Total, Toyota, Virgin Mobile… What they all have in common is that they appreciate our reactivity, our ability to advise them in choosing their personalisable gifts, our great variety of products and their impeccable quality."
Who are your main partners?
G.D.: "To offer our clients this impeccable quality, we owe it to ourselves to work with the best service providers on the market. For chocolates for example, we work hand in hand with Chocopolis, Guylian and Léonidas, with Jules De Strooper for biscuits, and with Mentos for mints. In all, we have around thirty partners worldwide who make for us chocolates, biscuits (macaroons, butter biscuits...), confectionary (bonbons, lollipops...), mints, hazelnut products, organic products, fair-trade products..."
What are your future development projects?
G.D.: "We wish to continue our development by filling out our product ranges and reaching out to a new type of clientele. We especially hope to seduce big luxury hotel groups that can offer personalised chocolates, biscuits and confectionary to their clients. For now, we already have in our client portfolio prestigious brands such as Starwood, Marriott, Intercontinental, NH Hotels, Hilton, Radisson Blu and Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts. But obviously we don't intend to stop when things are going so well..."
