Corse-Matin revealed the news on Friday 2 May. The national Chamber reform was at the heart of preoccupations at the latest General Assembly of the Territorial CCI of Upper Corsica.
The primary source of concern is debt reduction, inevitably leading to belt-tightening measures. "In other words, in the very near future, perhaps as of 2015, in Corsica and elsewhere, there will only be a single Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a single Trade Chamber, a single Chamber of Agriculture, where there are currently three separate bodies," reports the Corsican daily paper.
Some regions are preceding the move and looking at mergers of all CCIs within their territories. Others call for resistance and advocate keeping things as they are while also sharpening the blades of their argument. "Everyone has understood that the reform is unavoidable and represents a very short-term commitment," explained the President of the Territorial CCI of Upper Corsica during his opening speech at the General Assembly, in the presence of the Prefect and the Mayor of Bastia.
