As much as will be needed. Even though this is a labour intensive position, I know I can rely unconditionally on the structure capacity itself as well as on the support of my peers in the Presidency.
I did my studies in Economics at the University of Munich and Innsbruck and a Phd with a final thesis on distribution policy in breweries, a sector where I developed my career. In the past I managed different leading positions linked to breweries field. In 1974, I started working at the family business - the Karlsberg Brauerei, where I am the Executive Associate since 1983.
In 2004, I was decorated with the French Legion of Honour order and, one year later, with the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Currently, I am also President of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of the Saarland Member of the board of EUROCHAMBRES, the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce; member of the board of the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) and DIHK’s Special Advisor for European Affairs. In the meantime, I am Vice President of EUROCHAMBRES and have accepted the challenge of the election to become 2 the new president of this essential association that represents an European network of 2000 regional and local Chambers.
Will you be remaining at the Chamber of Commerce of Saarland?
I will remain there. My local roots will help me connecting EU with local needs.
Do you have faith in auto-enterprises, those new forms of enterprise that are emerging in Europe ?
Innovative forms of making business are healthy for our economy. We do not focus too much on the legal form but on the capacity to create value. And it is also a way to fight the unemployment.
What is the face ot the European business of tomorrow ?
Once we will solve the structural problem in Europe, the European business will emerge as a competitive, knowledge based and driven by young entrepreneurs’ business community.
