While within France, CCIs in the same region are increasingly merging, in the world, others are springing up. This is shortly to be the case of the first Iran-US Chamber of Commerce. “It will be launched in less than one month,” announced Abolfazl Kejazi, a member of Iran’s Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture. The country formerly known as Persia wishes to export products to the United States and to import raw materials and American technology.
The Iranian government has furthermore given its permission for the establishment of direct air flights between Kish Island in the Hormozgan province and New York.
“Kish Island is a free-trade zone and Iranian passengers who have US citizenship will not need to obtain visas to enter it,”explained Abolfazl Kejazi.
It was the historic agreement guaranteeing Teheran’s pacific nuclear programme, settled at the end of November in Geneva between Iran and other major powers, that opened the way for the creation of the new Chamber. This agreement, valid for six months, limits Iranian nuclear activities in exchange for a partial removal of certain Western sanctions. It is expected to lead to a global agreement within the next year.
